The number of tourists who have visited Sofia since the beginning of this year has increased by 12% compared to the same period in 2023, reported from the Ministry of Tourism. From the Capital Municipality informed that the number of registered overnight stays in the past six months amounted to just over 1.3 million, which is 10% more than in the same period last year, and there were almost 580,000 tourists.
The top five countries from where most tourists come to Bulgaria’s capital are Italy, Germany, Greece, the UK and Turkey. “Sofia is also an attractive destination for tourists from Spain, Israel, Romania, USA, China, Canada and Australia,” said Anton Penev, director of the Municipal Enterprise ‘Tourism’ and added that almost 60% of those coming to Sofia are foreign tourists. 80% of them are accommodated in 3-, 4- and 5-star hotels, with an average stay of 2-3 days.
