Bulgarian restaurants and hotels are the cheapest in the EU

Bulgaria has established itself as the most affordable vacation destination in the EU. This is shown by the latest data on comparative price levels, according to which overall consumer prices in Bulgaria are the lowest in the European Union, and prices in the country’s hotels and restaurants are nearly half the European average, reports BGNES.

With the European Union’s average price level index for household final consumption expenditure (HFCE) set at 100 points, Bulgaria’s index stands at 63. By comparison, Turkey’s index is 59.6, Croatia’s is 78.4, Portugal’s is 86.6, Greece’s is 87.4, Spain’s is 91.6, and Italy’s is 97.1.

Bulgaria’s advantage is most pronounced in the “Restaurants and Hotels” category, which is considered crucial for tourism. With an EU average index of 100, Bulgaria’s stands at 52. This is more than 20 points lower than that of its next closest traditional competitor—Portugal, which has an index of 73.6.
